In the Event of Theft/Loss or Expiry of a Passport in Thailand
Italian nationals who have lost their passport or whose passport has been stolen, as well as those holding an expired or expiring passport, or a damaged passport, and who urgently need to travel, are required to go to the Consular Office, as a rule at least 3–4 days prior to departure, without an appointment (provided they attend during public opening hours), in order to apply for the issuance of an ETD (Emergency Travel Document) for the purpose of returning to Italy (or to their country of residence).
Applicants must present themselves with the following documents — originals and photocopies, already prepared/printed:
-
Completed ETD application form (see the Forms section);
-
Two recent colour passport-size photographs, with a white background and compliant with international ICAO standards;
-
Police report issued by the local police authorities in case of theft or loss;
-
Air ticket for return travel to Italy or to the country of residence;
-
Photocopy of the passport or another identity document, if available.
Although no formal appointment is required, in view of the high number of requests—particularly during peak travel periods—applicants are kindly requested, where possible and for office requirements, to notify the Consular Office of their visit approximately 3–4 working days in advance by sending an email to consolare.bangkok@esteri.it, attaching in advance a scanned copy of the lost/damaged passport and the above-mentioned documents.
Please note that the Embassy does not provide service outside normal office hours or on public holidays for the issuance of ETDs.
