XIII Week of the Italian Language in the World: celebrating Italian language, sustainability and literary heritage in Bangkok

Settimana della Lingua Italiana

On the occasion of the 13th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World – an initiative aimed at promoting the knowledge and teaching of the Italian language and culture, whose theme this year is “Italian and sustainability” –  the event “Getting to know Italo Calvino. Calvino and sustainability” will take place on October 21st in Bangkok.

This year we celebrate the centenary of the birth of the famous Italian writer, whose contribution to modern Italian and world literature is not limited to the literary sphere alone but who also stimulated the reflection on the relationship between man and nature, anticipating many themes of the current debate on environmental sustainability.

The event is organized by the Department of Italian Studies of the Faculty of Letters of Chulalongkorn University, with the support of the Italian Embassy, and will involve the Italian language students, who will engage in recital readings of famous passages taken from Calvino’s literary works.

An in-depth study of Italo Calvino’s work and legacy regarding the topic of sustainability will follow, during which participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Calvino’s world, appreciating his literary philosophy, thematic richness and his lasting influence on contemporary literature.

The event will be held starting from 1.30 pm at the Open House Bookshop of the Central Embassy (6th floor), where it will also be possible to purchase some of the most renowned Italo Calvino’s books translated into Thai and English.
