XXIV Week of the Italian Language in the World

The XXIV edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World will take place from 14 to 20 October 2024 with the theme “Italian and Books: the World between the Lines”, with the aim of exploring the connection between language and literature in the contemporary world, while enhancing the role of the book as a vehicle of Italian cultural heritage, values ​​and identity.

The Italian Embassy in Bangkok has organized – in collaboration with the Department of Italian Studies of Chulalongkorn University and the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation – several initiatives, including an event that will be held on Saturday 19 October 2024, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, at Museum Siam in Bangkok. The event includes several activities, including a short seminar on translation from Italian to Thai by Prof. Chatsuni Sindhusing, games, singing performances by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and the participation of local publishing companies.

During the event, the winners of the Italian-Thai translation competition launched a few days ago will also be awarded. The translation concerned two arias from the operas of Giacomo Puccini, as 2024 marks the centenary of his death, particular, they are “Nessun Dorma” (from Turandot) and “O Mio Babbino Caro” (from Gianni Schicchi).
