Mission to Thailand of Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi (16-18 May)

The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi visited Thailand from 16 to 18 May to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), one of the five UN Regional Commissions, whose work focuses on the fight against climate change and on promoting sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. Italy is a permanent observer at UN-ESCAP.

During her visit to Bangkok, Undersecretary Maria Tripodi had a long and cordial meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Thailand, Vijavat Isarabhakdi, during which the many areas of cooperation between Italy and Thailand were reviewed, together with the areas of collaboration at multilateral level.

On the sidelines of UN-ESCAP, Undersecretary Tripodi had bilateral meetings with the Executive Secretary of UN ESCAP, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, with the Under-Secretary-General (USG) of the United Nations, Rabab Fatima, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS), with the President of the Republic of Palau, Suranjel Whipps Jr., with the Prime Minister of Samoa, Fiame Naomiu Mata’afa, and with the Minister of Finance of Tuvalu, Seve Paeniu.

The Undersecretary also visited the Italian pavilion at the fair Future Energy Asia 2023, curated by the Italian Trade Commission, where 13 Italian companies were present. On May 18, Undersecretary Tripodi finished her mission at the Sattahip naval base, where she met the crew of the Italian Navy ship “Francesco Morosini”, engaged in its Indo-Pacific campaign.
