The Italian Embassy in Bangkok in collaboration with UNDP and the British Embassy in Bangkok, will host on 11 October at 4pm a web seminar with the title: “Youth4Climate: how to drive ambition after Milan? Takeaways by the two young delegates from Thailand”. The event will be centered around the two young Thai delegates (Aminta Permpoonwiwat, Aim and Phatteeya Yongsanguanchai, Grace) to Youth 4Climate roundtable talks which took place in Milan from 28 to 30 September 2021, who will share their experience and insights with an audience of young people.
The event is part of the 5th Edition of the Festival of Sustainable Development organized by AsSviS (Alliance for Sustainable Development), a series of events which will take place in Italy and around the world from September 28nd to October 14th (https://festivalsvilupposostenibile.it/2021/english/). The Festival was created to raise awareness among growing segments of the population on social, economic and environmental sustainability, going beyond subject-matter experts, in order to foster a cultural shift in individual and collective behaviors, and to stimulate “bottom-up” requests to comply with the Agenda 2030 and the agreements undertaken in the UN.
According to the Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, Lorenzo Galanti, who will open the seminar “We aim to discuss the views of young generations on protecting our planet from the dire consequences of climate change. It is an opportunity also for decision-makers to listen to the voice of young people and their takeways from discussions in Milan. Future generations will be the most affected by the consequences of climate change, but at the same time they can play a pivotal role as a drive for raising Governments’ ambitions in undertaking all necessary steps to tackle this unprecedented challenge. What can be done globally to raise awareness? What can be done in Thailand?”.
Youth 4Climate took place on September 28-30, 2021 in Milan, where young climate champions from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 197 member countries gathered to participate in fast-paced working groups with their 400 peers from around the world to develop concrete proposals to be presented to Ministers attending the Milan Pre-COP and Glasgow COP26 meetings. Participants had the chance to listen to Italian Prime Minister Mr. Mario Draghi, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Mr. Boris Johnson, the UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres and the UK COP 26 President Mr. Alok Sharma.
